Which makes a better pet cat or dog?

So which animal makes a better pet? Well I strongly believe a dog the way to go. Dogs may have some disadvantages, but so does a cat. Playful dogs and require a lot attention than most cats do, cats like to lay around and sleep. Take into consideration that when you adopt a cat they can be quite demanding. Cats can be deceiving animals, they like to rob you of your food and love.

Starting off if you give your dog the love and caring it will become your best friend, ever heard of the saying “a man's best friend”? Well that's true. Dogs are some of the greatest companions you could have. They are great for; adventures, hunting, playing games, investigations and much more. If we go back into the Egyptian times cats pretty ruled the Egyptian times. Back then there was only one breed and they were the the sphinx. In Egypt there is even a statue of the sphinx, which lost its nose. This being said cats have been the rulers and dogs are man's best friend .

Different types of dog breeds are great for different types of things. In the police business German shepherds help polices officers crimes, they can be quite energetic and a handful but besides that they still help police officers. If you want to adopt a dog that will be your best friend, a Labrador is a great choice. Like German shepherds they can be quite energetic as well, but they will love you forever if you care for them. Some soldiers that have been in the war and have come back having nightmares about the war, use Labradors to check that there is no danger in their homes. Some Labradors can also be great for duck hunting. While some will be frighten by the gun and run for their lives.

Lastly dogs are far more active than cats depending on the breed; this makes it easier to keep pet healthy and fit. Cats can be difficult to keep healthy if you don’t give them the right diet. You might think they are playing and being fit when you let them into the outside world. But most likely they are laying around somewhere sleeping and definitely not being fit and healthy. The only time they get up and jump around is when the demand food, then they go back to sleeping. You must take into consideration that what breed a dog is, it can be more expensive than cats. The larger the dog the more food is required.

This is why I conclude that dogs make a better pet than cats. When you think about their history and what more opportunities you get with a dog than a cat, They can make a better pet. Depending on what breed of animal you get can also make a different. Different breeds of cats may be energetic and breeds of dogs can be quite lazy. Though when you compare them together dogs have more good qualities.

Music is more important than sports

Music is more important than sports

I believe that music is more important than sports. Music can create a huge impact around the world. What you feel while writing music is what people will feel when listening to your music, it is amazing what you can create only using words. Music gives you more chances in life to become success and give a steady career. For example you get enter music contests and that could already be the start of your success. You just to give all you effort, as well as in sports.

Firstly think about what you could do when writing music. When writing music you can express your emotions through the words you write. Unlike music, when playing sports it can be difficult to express any emotions through sports. If you are feeling depressed while writing your song, your music will feel more gloomy. If you are more excited your song will feel more joyous. You might not even realize what you are writing in songs is expressing how you feel. Music can help you let loose and write down everything down and turn it into something amazing.

Furthermore in the music business you have far more opportunities than sports. Music gives you the chance to enter singing contests, like the voice. That could be the start of your career. Music also gives you the chance to get recognized around the world. In the future you could become on of the most famous song writers. Sports does also give you the chance to have a successful career, but you might not get as recognized as a songwriter. Unlike sports with music you don’t have to stick with on type of music. In sports you stay with one type of sports, e.g sports, tennis, soccer.

You must consider in sports you also get more exercise than songwriting, sports can give you a more healthier lifestyle than songwriting. But you can’t stay as a sports player forever. Most sports players retire around their 30’s and 40’s, depending on the sports. Most sports are quite active which makes it harder to play in the future. Which also causes you to get hurt easier When making music you can keep making music when you're old and gray. Music dosen’t require and physical activity, which makes it easier to play when you're older. Around the world music people in their seventies are still making music, though it might not be as modern, they are still making music

In conclusion I believe that music is more important than sports. There is so many more opportunities you get while doing music and you can still carry on doing music when your old, unlike sports. There is so much you can create doing music, which also affects other people. There's far more people in the world that gets recognized for music than sports. It is endless what you can create with music, you just have to use your imagination.

The Life of War

The life of war

This is a children's book I made in room 2, called The Life of War. Blurb: The Great war that started in 1914. My father and brother were some of the thousands of soldiers that went to war. It was a sad time at the home front, but what did I do during that time at the home front?

First we had to write our story (mine is what it might be like at the home front during the first world war (The Great war) and it a bit like a first person view). Then we had to share our story. Then if we wanted we could turn it into a children's book ( which is what I did), or just share it on our blog.

Story:

Life of war

In 1914 my father and my brother Jack left to the great war. I wished them good luck and hugged them, then off they went. I can’t wait till they returned home, so we can all be a big happy family again! I know that they will both return home safe, I believe in them.

When I read what they write my smiles stretches as big as a half moon. I am always so happy when I know they are doing well. I reread the letters over and over when I miss them, it always me feel like they here. When I write them letters I hope they feel the same.

My mum spends her time using old clothes to make new clothes. She unthreads clothes and makes them into socks and cuts clothes to make them smaller. I help Mother knit socks and other clothes as well, I hope the socks I made were cozy.

My favourite thing to make for my Father and brother are Solider biscuits. I enjoy baking. I love seeing how all the ingredients come together.

Mother helps me when I make Solider biscuits. Sometimes I make quite a mess. When making Anzac biscuits I love mixing all the ingredients together and watching it all froth up. But I guess my favorite part is eating a soldier biscuit!

1918 had come around like a blur and the war had been going on for 4 years already. I wished the war would come to a stop and Father and Jack could return home. I missed them so much and I know Mother did too.

11 November was the day the war finally ended! Father and Jack finally came home. Me and Mother were so happy to see them both safe. They were some of the few thousand of New Zealand soldiers that returned unharmed. I knew I would never forget what it was like during the war at the home front.

Safe Cycling

We were learning to:
  • Use a variety of simple, compound and complex sentences
  • Use punctuation correctly and check your spelling
  • Check that our grammar is correct

Safe Cycling

On 4 - 4 -2017 (Tuesday) Constable Josh and Constable Terry came to our school to teach our classroom (room 2) safe cycling.

Before we even started biking we learned the safety rules on a bike. When turning a corner you have to put one of your arms out to signal which way you are turning 3 seconds ahead (Example: if you are turning left you put your left arm out). When you are about to stop you put your right hand to signal you are going to stop. If you are going around a car look behind you to make sure there are no cars coming. Then make sure there is no one inside the car so they don't open up the door on you and you crash.

When we got outside to start biking, we started simple with biking around cones on the court. There were a few traffic jams, but it was fine. We had to use our hand signals and everything else we learned. Finally after we had all accomplished that the course got a bit more complex. We had to on 2 type of ramps that goes up and down with your weight. As well as a ladder (which isn’t really a ladder now).

Once all that we were now more experience with the safety of biking (Don’t know what we learned from the ramps though)! Now it was time to test our skills… There was a course set up around the block near the school. Which would know test what we learned from safe cycling. We had to use our hand signals and always check for cars. I think we did pretty good.

New Zealand

I am Lucky to be a New Zealander Because:

New Zealand is a great place to live. It is beautiful, we have our native animals, plants and it is also very peaceful. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else! Some other countries don’t have it like we do, they struggle a lot and have very many problems. You might not realize it but we are lucky to live in New Zealand and be New Zealanders, we have it easy.

Here are some examples of living in New Zealand. School,  a lot of our parents might just us drive to school, bike or walk. It sounds crazy that in some other countries kids have to climb mountains, across rivers, walk in the hot hot sun and also ride a dangerous steel zip line 400m above the Rio Negro River! it can take hours for kids to get to school, even 5 hours. But these kids want to go to school so much they cross these dangerous environments to get to school. Wow! That takes a lot of courage to do all that to get to school (I think I’ll just walk/ drive/ bike to school).

Pollution, New Zealand has relatively good air quality due to our low population, close proximity to the sea and we are far from other continents and sources of pollution. We are also trying to lower the amount of pollution in our country (Fact: in north-east of china the smog is so thick it is advised to wear gas masks) Plus we don’t wear gas masks so our country is fine and healthy, however not all countries are like us. According to the World Health Organization Ahvaz, Iran is now the most polluted city in the world. Also with all the constant dust storms, Iran is not getting any better. So let's just keep New Zealand healthy…

New Zealand may be one of the world's best places to live in, you're more likely to be shocked by stunning beach views than by conflict or violence. No one's going to bomb you if you live here, If you do well… you're just unlucky (don’t worry you're not going to get bombed).

You know our native animal? It’s the kiwi, the kiwi is a wonderful bird. You can’t find it anywhere else, that's why it’s our native bird! But don’t mistake a kiwi for a kiwifruit, you don’t eat a kiwi like kiwifruit. The kiwi isn’t the only thing you can find in New Zealand but can’t find it anywhere else… it’s marmite! But I have to admit marmite isn’t my favourite thing to eat, I prefer jam.

Deadly spider and snakes..? Yikes! Those things terrify me! Good thing we don’t have them in New Zealand, I don’t have to check my shoes everyday to make sure there no spiders. Unlike Australia we don’t have tarantulas, Eastern brown snakes (or any snakes for that matter), Blue ring octopus and a lot more. It’s pretty non deadly in New Zealand!

I love living in New Zealand! It’s so wonderful. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, there's too many good things about New Zealand to leave behind!

Memoir

Memoir

It first started at Punakaiki Beach, 2017. The sky was cloudy, miserable and on the bridge of raining, the crisp breeze brushing against my skin making me shiver. I was out with my friend (Osharn) and her family (Alissa, Sarah, Karea, Nova and Chris).

Me and Osharn put our swimming bags on a large rock that was sticking out from the ground. I looked around and spotted Nova out in the distance and was yelling out at us to come over. We sprinted over the rocks with our boogie boards, trying not to slip over and fall on our faces. Eventually we reached Nova and we started to run over to the water.

There was another river of ice cold water. ‘I definitely don’t want to go swimming in that, the water's freezing!’ I thought to myself. The water lead into a cave, but you had to swim through the water to reach it. “Why don’t you guys swim to the cave!” Alissa yelled to us. “The water's freezing!” Nova replied looking down at the river. “Theres a waterfall at the other end!” Alissa said trying to convince us to get into the water. We all moaned knowing that we would have to get into the water sometime or later. I strapped The wrist band that was on the boogie board onto my wrist and we jumped in.

As soon as I hopped in the water the water turned me into a ice block, freezing my whole body. “I can’t feel my feet, I’m going to get frostbite!” I screamed with a tint of amusement in my voice. I got no reply from Nova or Osharn. Nova was complaining how cold the water was and Osharn was trying to comfort her. The water far too deep, it was dark so we couldn’t put our feet on the ground and had to rely on our boogie boards. “Ok… why are we all wearing bikinis?!” I pointed out, Nova let out a chuckle. “ wait, isn’t there eels in here?!” Osharn asked worriedly, freaking out Nova and herself out. “No there are no eels, it's too cold for eels.” I was trying to reassure them.

We were about the reach the cave then patter patter, it started raining. ‘Ok really, that's just great’ I thought to myself. Sandflies then started attacking me, sucking my blood like little tiny vampires. We eventually reach a rock that was at the end of the cave. I climbed up the rock which had wet moss all over it. “It’s quite slippery, so be careful” I told them causally. Once we were all up we looked around, It was beautiful and fascinating. There was a waterfall next to us echoing all around the cave when it it the rock. We knew we would have to go back now.

I started walking down the rock, Osharn was in front of me. Suddenly... Slip! “Ow…” Oshan had lost her footing and slipped over. “You ok?” I asked trying not to slip over myself. “Ok be careful- Wo!” Oof! I slipped over myself and landed on my butt, Sliding down next to Osharn. “Ok don’t listen to me...”. Osharn and Nova were laughing there heads off, not caring I fall over. “Osharn you cut yourself!” Nova pointed out, Osharn curiously looked at her elbow which was in fact bleeding a tiny bit. “You guys go on without me! Eels like blood” Osharn said making everything dramatic, “there are no eels!” I told Osharn who was freaking out. “We’ll go back and get Alissa and give her one of our boogies boards and she can come and get Osharn!” Nova said thinking she made a brilliant idea. ‘That's one of the worst ideas I’ve ever heard’ I thought to myself. “Look just go on without me” Osharn repeated. “Well I’m not staying here I’m going back” I finally had enough and hopped back in the freezing water with my boogie board and swam back.

I learned going to Punakaiki beach (a.k.a Antarctica) and swimming in the water was something was something I did not want to repeat. I’m not keen on getting frost bite. Also there actually was a eel stalking us in the water, which Nova saw. Glad I didn't get bitten.

Learning

Jessica

Everyone has a different way of learning things, there are three different ways: Visual learning, Auditory learning and Kinesthetic learner. If you use the visual style you learn by watching and writing. If you are a Auditory learning you learn by listening and hearing. A Kinesthetic Learner carrings out physical activities, rather than listening to a lecture or watching demonstrations

Kinesthetic Learner

Kinesthetic Learners are known as doers. it's hard for them to sit still for long and subconsciously fidget, twirl a pen, shake their leg eg. They enjoy being active and participating in sports, they have lots of physical energy and are quite agile (move quickly and easy).

Image result for kinesthetic wordTips to make it easier for Kinesthetic Learners to learn:

  • Take active breaks when study, only for about 10-15 minutes
  • Keep your fingers moving while working and your body, while reading or writing
  • stand up and walk around keeping active
  • Assemble charts and diagrams
  • Discuss your ideas with another Kinesthetic learner to help improve your work
  • Use Pictures and Photographs that illustrate and idea and explain it
  • While in class take note when your teacher is talking to help remember
  • When reading try reading out loud to remember the words (maybe not in silent reading)
  • Set up a work area with as few distractions as possible so your not fidgeting with anything
  • Think of real life scenarios to help you get ideas for writing
  • Act things out, for example point to things and use hand gestures when explaining things
  • Figure out a way to be active in class, preferably something not disruptive (Disclaimer: I am not held responsible if you are disruptive)
  • Trace words and letters to learn spelling words easier and quicker
